Human Intelligence Course at U.S. Army
April 2005 - August 2005The HUMINT Collection course consists of three phases: Interrogations, Collections and the Field Training Exercise (FTX). The Interrogation section teaches the basic skills needed to interrogate Enemy Prisoners of War (EPW). The Students are tested on the legal aspects of HUMINT collection, map tracking, the use of order of battle reference materials, exploitation of captured enemy documents, basic questioning methodology, assessing the source for vulnerability to approaches, as well as presenting a situation briefing. The Collections section is when a student is graded on his ability to conduct a meeting, ensure the student and source's security, and obtain as much information of intelligence value from the source as possible. Additionally, the students are graded on their ability to produce Information and Contact Reports following those meetings.

January 2004 - February 2005Worked as a HUMINT (Human Intelligence) Operator for the AMIB (Allied Military Intelligence Battalion) in Bosnia. One of only a couple of Operators granted authorization by the Battalion Commander to work as a solo Operator. Worked with an interpreter in distant, isolated locations for an extended period of time. Responsibilities included planning, coordinating, and executing all aspects of the HUMINT collection cycle, including contact identification and recruitment, meeting preparation, debriefing, report writing and case development. Trained several multi-national colleagues in HUMINT collection and one U.S. Army Sergeant Major.
